HPLC Column Hydrophobicity Chart

HPLC Column Hydrophobicity Chart

Hydrophobicity (H) is the most widely used and understood separation mechanism in reversed-phase chromatography. Larger values of H correspond to increased retention when other factors (such as mobile phase composition and temperature) are held constant, while smaller values correspond to decreased retention. Small H values also allow additional mechanisms to aid in retention and column selectivity. Values for this chart were determined using the hydrophobic subtraction model [1], and may be used as a guide during method development or when determining column equivalency.
