Chromatography Mastermind Campaign Earns American Inhouse Design Award
Graphic Design USA has presented Restek Corporation with a 2013 American Inhouse Design Award for its Chromatography Mastermind tradeshow materials. Of the 4,000+ entries submitted each year, only the top 15% gain acknowledgment through this prestigious competition. The GD USA contest “is the original and the biggest showcase for outstanding work by inhouse designers. For many years, it has provided an opportunity for inhouse designers to be recognized for their talent, for the challenges they face, and for their contributions to their businesses and institutions.” Restek is proud to accept this honor and would especially like to applaud graphic designer Barb Roan for her exceptional efforts on this project.
This multi-component Chromatography Mastermind campaign was initially created to publicize Restek’s presence at Pittcon 2013. Specifically, its goal was increasing awareness of the Chromatography Mastermind quiz, which was assembled by technical representatives across the company as a way for customers to test themselves while having fun and learning more about the various presentations being offered at the show. The app, mailer, e-mail, T-shirt, website advertisements, stickers, signage, app, and other pieces were so well received by attendees that the iPad app quiz will now be making an appearance at several other events throughout Restek’s 2013 conference schedule.
If you are a chromatographer looking to test your knowledge with some separation science brain teasers, visit www.restek.com/events to see where this exclusive app will be challenging analysts next. Restek’s technical experts will also be on-hand to assist you with your chromatography struggles—and of course, Restek products and support are always available at www.restek.com
Inaugural Governor’s ImPAct Award Celebrates Restek for its Export Activities
On May 23, 2013, companies from around the state of Pennsylvania converged at the Hershey Lodge for the first annual Governor’s ImPAct Awards. This prestigious event was conceived by Governor Tom Corbett, the PA Department of Community and Economic Development, and the Team PA Foundation to pay tribute to businesses that are creating jobs and actively investing in Pennsylvania. To be eligible, companies first had to be nominated by their representative to the Partnerships for Regional Economic Performance (PREP) program. Then, the merits of each nominee were scored by an independent panel of judges to determine the final winners in each PREP region.
Three representatives from Bellefonte-based Restek Corporation—Shaun Smith, Karen Kishbach, and Nicole Simpson—accepted the Export Impact award on behalf of the employee-owners of Restek. This award comes soon after Restek announced the opening of a new subsidiary in the People’s Republic of China—joining offices in the U.S., France, Germany, UK, and Japan in addition to a distributor network that covers over 100 countries across six continents. As a company that started so humbly in a single room of a business incubator just over 25 years ago, Restek is honored to be recognized for its expansion into a global provider of cutting-edge chromatography products and world-class Plus 1 service.

Restek Employee-Owners and Customers Partner With the American Red Cross
Restek Corporation is grateful to have been recognized by the American Red Cross for our efforts to aid the victims of Superstorm Sandy. Through a modification of our Wizard Dollars program that included a one-for-one corporate match, Restek employee-owners and customers donated $2,632 to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. With such wide-spread destruction after the hurricane, we felt obliged to do what we could to help and wanted to extend the chance to lend a hand to our customers, who graciously responded in large numbers. Restek sincerely thanks the Red Cross for their acknowledgment as well as our customers for the additional support.
With the devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma, we feel compelled to again do our part. Donations are already pouring in from across Restek, and we have also made it possible once more for our customers to give the Wizard Dollars they earn on chromatography purchases to the cause. For two months, customers can simply click a box during checkout asking Restek to convert their Wizard Dollars into cash to help those in need—and we will match donations dollar for dollar up to $5,000. Together, we can try to make a difference to families who have lost so much.
On a related note, we would be remiss if we did not also mention our LC Accessories Product Marketing Manager: Carrie Sprout. For almost all of her 17 years with Restek, Carrie has coordinated our blood drive program, and she was recently honored with the 2013 Business Sponsor Coordinator Award for her hard work and dedication. Congratulations, Carrie!
Restek’s Mike Shuey Receives Accolade From The ESOP Association
We are delighted to announce that Mike Shuey was honored with the 2012 Employee Owner of the Year Award from the PA/DE chapter of The ESOP Association!
Since his first day on the job, Mike has been a fervent supporter of both Restek and the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) model. He is a long-time member and current leader of our Employee Owners Communication Team, and his passion has pushed him to routinely promote ESOPs by giving company-wide presentations, helping coordinate our annual shareholder meetings, and educating other employee owners. Extending his involvement far beyond the borders of the Restek campus, Mike is also a regular attendee of ESOP conferences and has been the company point person for communicating with our representatives at the state and federal level.
A 7-year veteran of Restek, Mike Shuey worked his way up from Customer Service Representative to Group Leader and, now, to Domestic Customer Service Supervisor. His rapid advancement is a result of the same dedication and energy that drove him to become one of our resident ESOP experts and earned him this honor.
Our own Pete Rose took home this prestigious award last year, making it two in a row for Restek. Mike and Pete are the embodiment of the principles and core values on which Restek was founded, and we are proud to call them fellow employee-owners.
Congratulations, Mike and Pete!
