Jonathan Munch Keim found his initial home at Restek in Technical Service, where he spent 8 years putting his B.S. in Chemistry from Juniata College and M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from Pitt to work assisting Resteks customers. He started as a Technical Service Specialist and ultimately rose to Technical Service Manager before assuming the role of Sample Preparation Product Marketing Manager. In October 2012, Jonathan became Resteks Education Coordinator to support and expand the company’s technical training program. Along with providing instruction on QuEChERS and other sample prep methods, Jonathan also lends his expertise to our GC and GC-MS seminars.
Equipped with a B.S. from The Pennsylvania State University and two years’ experience as an Environmental Chemist at Lancaster Labs, Scott spent 13 years with Alltech Associates/WR Grace, where he worked in research & development, technical support, applications, product management, and e-business. Most recently before joining Restek, he also worked at Thermo Scientific as an Applications Specialist. With a balanced mix of marketing and application proficiency, Scott is helping expand our offering of GC accessories to better meet the needs of analysts worldwide.
Restek's Senior Petrochemical Innovations Chemist, Barry has more than 30 years of chromatography experience and has been a voting member of the ASTM D2 committee for over a decade. He specializes in petrochemical applications.
Frances earned her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, a minor in Chemistry, and a Master of Forensic Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University. She is currently an LC Applications Chemist at Restek and focuses on method development and troubleshooting LC and LC-MS/MS applications, using new and existing products in an effort to provide better solutions to our customers. Prior to joining Restek, she worked as a Research Chemist, then Group Leader for a contract research organization focusing on regulated high-throughput bioanalytical research performed by LC-MS/MS. Frances has also taught analytical chemistry courses, including quantitative analysis, forensic chemistry, chromatography and electrochemistry, and spectroscopy at Penn State.
Paul brought 24 years of analytical and chromatography expertise to Restek, including 16 years performing LC-MS/MS. He earned his B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, after which he was a Chemist for Halliburton NUS Environmental Services for nearly a decade. Paul has also worked as a Scientist and Principle Investigator, then Group Leader for Centre Analytical Laboratories; an LC-MS Technical Leader for Exygen Research; and a Bioanalytical Director for MPI Research. Additional highlights of his professional experience include sample preparation, pharmaceutical drug development, clinical analysis, animal health/food safety, and method development. As our LC Columns Product Marketing Manager, Paul’s main focus is further developing Restek’s USLC® technology and Raptor™ SPP LC columns into new application areas.
Jaap de Zeeuw
Jaap is a world-renowned chromatographer with over 35 years of experience, including 27 years with Varian/Chrompack focusing on industrial analysis challenges. For his 1979 graduation from The Institute for Higher Education Specialized in Chemistry, Jaap authored a paper titled The Challenge of Coating Flexible Fused Silica Capillary Columns and has since distinguished himself as an authority on the subject. Directly involved with the creation of numerous chemically bonded columns, including the first bonded PEG column and the stabilized PLOT columns widely used in the petrochemical arena, Resteks International GC Specialist has helped develop new techniques, such as fast GC-MS using vacuum GC technology, and has filed two patents for his work. Based out of the Netherlands, Jaap is extensively published and regularly travels internationally to share his knowledge.
Since 2004, Chris has been the head of Restek’s Innovations Lab, where he oversees a team of more than a dozen chemists performing applications work, new product testing, and method development for both LC and GC. Before taking the reins of our lab, he spent 7 years as our Environmental Chemist and 4 years as a GC and GC-MS chemist with Inchcape Testing Services (now Intertek Testing Services).
Rob Freeman returned to Restek in December 2012 to fill the role of Business Development Manager supporting the LC product line. He came from SGE Analytical Science, where he was the Chromatography Business Manager responsible for the commercial facets of the chromatography products portfolio in North and South America, and prior to SGE, he provided methods support and development to Restek as an Applications Chemist. Rob has over 18 years of chromatography experience and has developed numerous GC and LC applications that focus on achieving critical separations and optimizing current methodologies. Rob holds a B.A. in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and is an accomplished presenter, having developed and presented technical material for international seminars and symposiums.
Scott Grossman has worked at Restek for over 7 years, first as an Innovations Chemist and most recently as the Technical Supervisor of the Quality Control Department. He is interested in GC injection techniques and liner choice in particular. Before he arrived at Restek, Scott earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Mary Washington, and then spent 6 years with the U.S. Army researching chemical sensing and the detection of explosives. His experience is predominately in gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Jason S. Herrington, Ph.D.
Jason came to Restek after spending over 10 years in environmental analysis, most notably as a post-doctoral research fellow with the EPA focusing on the development of techniques for organic speciation of ambient gas-phase air toxics. He has a B.S. & Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers and The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey respectively. His dissertation examining carbonyl measurement methods in air garnered him several prestigious awards, and his wide-ranging work has been both published and presented around the world. As Resteks Air Innovations Chemist, Jason is heavily involved with developing new products and new ambient air applications.
Ty joined Restek as a Senior Innovations Chemist in 2008 and has since become the Manager of the HPLC Applications Group. In addition to overseeing the HPLC lab, his responsibilities include LC methods development, quality investigation and implementation, and phase design/research. Ty had worked as a manager, study director, and principal investigator for a contract research laboratory conducting methods development, validation, and routine analysis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals prior to coming onboard at Restek. He has been in the field of liquid chromatography for almost 20 years, including time as a quality chemist and instrumentation metrologist.
Julie Kowalski, Ph.D.
Julie is a Senior Innovations Chemist who previously taught college-level chromatography and spectroscopy lectures and labs for 5 years in addition to working as a staff scientist at the Penn State Intercollegiate Center for Mass Spectrometry. She has a B.S. in Chemistry from Juniata College, a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, and professional experience that includes troubleshooting and method development for GC, GC-MS, GCxGC, LC, and LC-MS/MS. Her primary work for Restek has been in food safety applications, especially QuEChERS and GCxGC method development.
As a Product Line Manager, Rick oversees the development and application of Restek’s LC products. He previously served as our Pharmaceutical Market Development Manager and Pharmaceutical Innovations Chemist, developing GC and LC applications and assisting in new product development. Before coming on board in 2005, he worked for 7 years as a Study Director and Principal Investigator for a contract research lab, where he developed and validated GC and LC methods while also managing the Stability Testing Department. Prior to shifting his focus to pharmaceuticals, he spent 4 years performing pesticide residue and volatile/semivolatile analysis.
Michelle is an Innovations Chemist at Restek Corporation with a B.S. in Chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University. For the past several years, she has been generating application data using new and existing products with the goal of providing a total solution for customers. With experience in GC and GC-MS as well as HPLC, she has worked with an emphasis on environmental and food safety testing field including GCxGC method development.
Neil Mosesman has over 30 years of chromatography experience. Before transitioning to a consultant role, he spent 24 years filling various technical marketing and product development positions at Restek. Prior to joining us, Neil was employed by Supelco in their New Product Development Group. He also has experience in environmental testing and at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Neil has 2 decades of experience presenting technical seminars both domestically and internationally.
Katarina came to Restek with a BS in Chemistry from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and research experience in both commercial and university labs. After three years as a QA Analyst, she joined the Innovations Department, where her work focuses on supporting new product development and applications for the petrochemical market.
Jan is a 35-year veteran of the petrochemical industry with extensive international experience in petro laboratories and with process applications throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. In his current position of Technical Business Development Manager Energy and Chemicals, Jan leads our scientific collaborations and key industry partnerships. Jan also serves as chairman of ASTM Section D02.D0.03 (C3 hydrocarbons) and as vice chairman of D02.04.0H (SimDist).
Chris has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of California, Riverside, and substantial experience with GC, GC-MS, sample preparation, standards formulation, and instrument calibration. His years performing organic EPA analysis include extensive work with methods 8270, 8260, 8141, and 8081. Over the course of his tenure at Microbac Laboratories, Inc., he was an organic analyst, organic supervisor, and technical director of the lab. After coming on as Restek’s Environmental Innovations Chemist in 2011, Chris has been concentrating on the optimization of existing environmental methods.
A Six Sigma green belt with a B.S. in Science from Penn State, Randy is a Senior Innovations Chemist who has been immersed in the design, manufacture, and use of LC columns for over 20 years. After working at Keystone Scientific, Inc., as both a chemist and research/applications supervisor, he came to Restek in 1994. One of his first accomplishments with Restek was helping to establish Restek’s LC column product line, and ever since, he has been developing a steady stream of new stationary phases, silica particles, column hardware, and more.
With over 25 years of experience in chromatography, Kristi has worked for Restek as a Clinical/Forensic Innovations Chemist, GC Column QA Chemist, and GC Process Chemist. She has also managed GC Column Manufacturing, QA, the Applied Science Group, and R&D. Kristi is currently our Product Marketing Manager for GC columns. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Lock Haven University and an M.B.A. from Regis University and has been a Restek® seminar instructor for more than 2 decades.
Gary has over 30 years of experience in chromatography, including sample preparation techniques, air sampling, and chromatographic analysis. He specializes in gas chromatography with an emphasis on the environmental and petroleum markets. Gary has been at Restek for almost 20 years and has played an instrumental role in developing many key products and numerous applications. During this time, he has served as the Innovations Lab Manager, Product Manager for both the GC Column and Air Sampling lines, and Director of Research and Innovation, where he was responsible for all aspects of research and new product development. Gary is currently our Product Line Manager overseeing reference standards, air sampling, and sample preparation.
Jason first came to “Chromatography Valley,” the location of Restek's state-of-the-art manufacturing and development facility, as a student of Chemistry at The Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduation, he ventured into the environmental and chemical industries for 4 years before finding a home at Restek, where he has been for over a decade. His current assignment is with the Innovations Department, developing new columns, working on environmental applications, and most recently focusing on SPE.
Becky Wittrig, Ph.D.
Becky is Restek’s European Sales Manager and has responsibility for sales and distribution activities in this region. She has over 20 years of experience in chromatography, including GC and HPLC method development in the areas of food composition and food safety, environmental contaminants, and clinical/forensic toxicology. She served previously as Restek’s Global HPLC Specialist (2003–2009) and the Food & Flavors Applications Chemist (2001–2003). Becky also spent two years as the Food & Environmental Business Development Manager at AB SCIEX before rejoining Restek in 2011. Prior to moving from the Twin Cities to Happy Valley, she supervised the chromatography laboratories at The Pillsbury Company and Ecolab, Inc., both in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition to her B.A. in Chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, Minnesota), Becky holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from the Krannert School at Purdue.
