Quick! Your oven is at 50 °C, your column is 30 m long with an ID of 0.32 mm. You have an inlet pressure of 10 psi (about 70 kPa) and temperature of 250 °C (He as your carrier). Finally, youre using a 4 mm ID, 78.5 mm long straight inlet liner. What should your splitless hold time be? Times up...do you have the answer? No? Whew...then Im not the only one who would struggle doing that in my head. Thankfully, none of you should have to do that calculation in your head (but if you do, bravo!). There are calculators that help you figure out these important parameters without ever making an injection. Restek has some, and you can find them via the link below. There is also another very helpful calculator that you can find via the web. If youre interested, just click on my name above and send me an email. Ill guide you to it. Also, I issue a challenge! Send me your answer to the above quiz, and the first person who gets it will win 5 wizard dollars or my autographed photo. :)
