Avoid temperature fluctuations—even small ones. A 1°C change in temperature can increase or decrease retention values by as much as 3%, so even a small temperature change can create problems with data, especially in gradient analyses. If your instrument is located near an air conditioning or heating vent, or other source of moving air, we recommend you isolate your column in a temperature jacket or other insulation.
