What are the differences between Rtx-5MS columns and Rtx-5Sil MS columns?

Rtx-5MS columns are coated with a 5% diphenyl/95% dimethyl polysiloxane phase and are tested to rigorous specifications for low bleed and inertness. They have polarity identical to Rtx-5 columns, but exhibit lower bleed. Rtx-5Sil MS columns are coated with a silarylene phase that exhibits polarity very similar to a 5% diphenyl/95% dimethyl polysiloxane phase, but the phenyl rings in the polymer chain of the silarylene phase impart improved thermal stability and lower bleed. The Rtx-5Sil MS column is an ideal choice for analyzing EPA Method 8270 semivolatile pollutants. The slight difference in the polarity of Rtx-5Sil MS columns also improves separation of benzo(b)- and benzo(k)- fluoranthene isomers.
