How can I tell when my Model V syringe valve is open or closed?

When the Model V syringe valve is pulled apart, it is closed; when it is pushed together, it is open. This design allows easy sample delivery: fill the syringe and pull the valve closed then, when you make an injection, insert the needle through the septum, push the valve open, and depress the plunger to inject the sample.
