A new low concentration organics analytical method for Superfund (OLC03.2) added six new semivolatile compounds: acetophenone, atrazine, benzaldehyde, 1,1'-biphenyl, caprolactam, 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene.
With a goal of combining convenience with long shelf life, Restek chemists have developed four mixes that contain all 66 compounds targeted in the OLC03.2 method: a MegaMix™ reference mix, a fortification mix, and individual solutions of 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine and 4-chloroaniline. The MegaMix™ reference mix contains all analytes not incorporated in the fortification mix or individual solutions, at a concentration of 1000µg/mL each, with two exceptions. Because the isomers 2-cresol and 3-cresol coelute they are included at 500µg/mL each; analysts using the MegaMix™ mix will not have to run a second calibration in order to quantify the cresols at the required limit. The solvent for the MegaMix™ mix, methylene chloride/benzene 75:25, ensures better solubility of the polyaromatic hydrocarbons. Seven compounds, 4,6-dinitro-2-methylphenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol, 2-nitroaniline, 3-nitroaniline, 4-nitroaniline, 4-nitrophenol, and 2,4,5-trichlorophenol, must be calibrated at higher concentration. To simplify the analysis, we developed our fortification mix of these seven compounds at higher concentration, 2000µg/mL, than the MegaMix™ reference mix. 3,3-dichlorobenzidine and 4-chloroaniline are formulated as individual solutions to avoid decomposition and reaction issues.
OLC03.2 SOW requires addition of deuterated monitoring compounds (DMC) to every sample, standard, and blank solution, for quality control. To satisfy the new method, we offer a Deuterated Monitoring Compounds Mix (DMC) at 2000µg/mL in methanol. We also offer a Semivolatile Internal Standard Mix, an Acid Matrix Spike Mix, a Base/Neutral Matrix Spike Mix and an SV Tuning Compound. Together, these Restek materials make a complete complement of semivolatile reference materials for the new OLC03.2 SOW.
