CAC Accepts Benzo Fluoranthenes Separation Challenge – Uses Rxi-17Sil MS

16 Nov 2020

The CAC continues its work with the 60m x 0.25mm x 0.10µm Rxi-17Sil MS, after previously showing separation of triphenylene and chrysene, by demonstrating baseline resolution of benzo fluoranthenes, including b, k, j, and a.  This is important because the European Food Safety Authority has recommended monitoring of carcinogenic PAHs benzo[b]fluoranthene and benzo[k]fluoranthene.  To determine these in an unbiased fashion, chromatographic separation is necessary, because they are isobaric as far as mass spectrometry is concerned.
