Abstract: In this article for The Analytical Scientist, we explore the complex roots that led to the creation of our EZGC method development software, a suite of web-based tools that recently received an Analytical Scientist Innovation Award. The journey from the powerful, yet complex, original Pro EZGC program to the newly reconfigured (and simplified) EZGC method development software has been an exciting one. Through the collaboration of analytical chemists and software developers, we were able to boil the input requirements of the original program down to a single essential question – what compounds do you need to separate? Based on this fundamental question, the interface and capabilities of the software evolved into a final iteration that gives GC users a fast, easy-to-use tool for solving real-world problems.
