Restek started about 40 years ago, providing products and solutions to facilitate environmental testing. Our goal has just evolved from routine environmental testing to specialized PFAS testing. It's just a continuation of practicing our core values.

The challenge in PFAS measurements lies in how low we can see in the real sample. They're usually measured in PPT or sometimes PPQ. PPT is like finding a single drop of water in an olympic sized swimming pool. Parts per quadrillion is 1000 swimming pools. And with the recent development of LC-MC/MS liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, we can see that low level at PPT or even PPQ levels.

The real challenge comes from analyzing our real-life samples. If the signal is buried by unwanted high level of background noise, removing that properly to see this low level is the challenge in PFAS analysis.

From the moment your sample arrives in your lab to the moment when you inject your sample, that's where Restek can help you with the PFAS workflow. We have certified reference standards, which are needed for calibration and spiking, SPE products for sample cleanup and preparation, and LC columns for superb, seventy-plus PFAS compound separation, PFAS delay columns, and general lab supplies like auto sampler vials, and polypropylene syringes and syringe filters.

Looking to the future, we also have GC columns and air canisters for neutral and volatile PFAS analysis.

One good tool that we can highlight is Pro EZLC suite, which is a web-based software—it's free software—and you can see the chromatogram on your computer screen before you walk into the lab. While using the software, you can change flow rates you can change mobile phases, and you can choose as many PFAS analytes as you want from our PFAS library. And before you start working in the lab, you'll have a very good starting point by optimizing the conditions virtually.

By working closely with experts in the industry, academia, and government agencies around the world, we realized that long-chain PFAS goes through a destruction process and it actually creates more shorter chain or ultrashort-chain PFAS compounds, and we developed the Polar X phase and patented it. It's ideal for analyzing ultrashort-chain PFAS compounds, and it's already adopted by key industry leaders and it's widely used by many researchers as well.

If you're just starting to analyze PFAS and starting a new lab, I'd recommend visiting restek.com/PFAS. There you can find numerous resources, from application notes and method guides and all the training materials. Most importantly, we have PFAS experts working at Restek around the globe.

By working together, we can help you solve the problems you're starting to see today.
